Ayutthaya, in the eyes of JA'MIE
The next place on the list was Ayutthaya, a small place 2 hours train ride out of Bangkok. It’s the old ancient capital of Thailand, and was used as a main trading route connecting Europe, South East Asia and China. It was convenient as a trading centre as its basically an island with a river running around it, making it accessible by boat. This is why there are a few old settlements from the Chinese, Portuguese and the Dutch on the island. Ayutthaya is a place that has a lot of Ancient Wats (temples) and we went about covering most of the main ones. I think we almost clocked up 13/15 in the 3 days we stayed there. We have a few pictures from some of the Wats we visited.

We decided to use bicycles to explore Ayutthaya, which seemed like a good way to get around all the Wats in a short space of time. Although one of the J’s, not naming names, had bit of an accident within 30 minutes of getting these bikes, attempting to jump the bike onto a ledge that was just not possible. He popped the tire and had to get a ride back. AMATEUR!!!! Thankfully the second day using bikes was event free. We also did a boat cruise on the second day at Ayutthaya which was heaps of fun. Throughout this trip we are filming a few videos sort of ripping off a show we all enjoy back home called moon tv, i guess its more for the friends. Parents im sorry you will probably think we are nuts, but this show holds a place close to our hearts. Might make some funny viewing when we compile them at home. First clip is Bike Time with Joshua Blandford.

What made the experience so relaxing in Ayutthaya was the place we stayed at, ‘Tonys Place’ guesthouse. Our first taste of backpacker luxury, with all you mod cons such as a TV (football channels), clean toilet, comfortable beds and some complementary toilet paper. It must be said that toilet paper is crucial over here. You may ask why???? Its because all the toilets have this water spray shower head thingy next to the toilet, and NONE of us have a clue how to use it. I’m dreading the day when we have to use one!!!!
